The countdown to the MegaETH testnet launch has already started.
Background
- The team is all set to launch the test version of its Ethereum-based layer-2 [L2] network this week
- Specifically, the deployment will begin on March 6, 2025
- This will enable public access to the network
- MegaETH is looking to process around 100,000 transactions per second
- Its infrastructure consists of specialized nodes (like sequencers) and provers
- Together, they aim to enhance network performance
Why should you pay attention?
- The rollout has been divided into phases
- During the initial few days, i.e. from March 6 to March 10, apps and infra teams will be onboarded
- This will give devs some extra breathing space to enhance their deployments and get used to MegaETH ecosystem
- Right after, i.e. from March 10 onwards, user onboarding will take place

Who said what?
- Addressing a note to builders, the MegaETH team said,
“Our current testnet will grant you access to 1.68 Ggas/sec & 15ms effective block times of single-threaded performance, with more scale coming”
- As far as users are concerned, the team said,
“To reduce issues on our public faucet we will be distributing testnet ETH directly to your wallets during the onboarding phase (3/10)”
Zooming out
- MegaLabs, the developer MegaETH, unveiled its flagship MegaETH NFT collection last month
- Called 'The Fluffle,' the collection comprises of 10,000 soulbound NFTs representing network ownership
