No More Exchanges? MetaMask to Let Users Trade Futures Without Leaving the App

MetaMask is preparing to roll out a new feature that could change how its millions of users interact with decentralized finance.

The self-custodial wallet, known for giving users direct control over their crypto assets, will soon integrate perpetuals trading through a partnership with Hyperliquid, a derivatives-focused blockchain platform.

Perpetuals come to the wallet

Perpetual futures contracts, a type of derivative widely used in crypto trading, will reportedly be accessible without leaving the MetaMask interface. The integration with Hyperliquid means traders can open and close perpetual positions directly inside their wallet, removing the need to hop between multiple platforms.

Hyperliquid operates its own Layer 1 blockchain and has built a niche around high-throughput perpetual futures markets. Unlike Ethereum-based platforms that often contend with high gas fees, Hyperliquid runs gas-free transactions and processes trades fully on-chain.

According to recent data, the platform records billions in daily trading volume across its spot and derivatives markets, highlighting its role as one of the more active venues in DeFi’s derivatives sector.

Expanding MetaMask’s DeFi toolkit

MetaMask, which has more than 30 million monthly active users, has increasingly moved to broaden its in-wallet services. Just recently, Consensys CEO and Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin confirmed the wallet’s native token, MASK, is on the way, with decentralization at the core of its planned design.

Additionally, MetaMask has also announced mUSD, a dollar-pegged stablecoin to be issued via Bridge, a Stripe-owned stablecoin platform, and supported by M0’s decentralized minting infrastructure.
