Taiko recently unveiled its airdrop plans for the community. Pertinent to phase one of its airdrop season, 5% of the initial TKO supply [1 billion] is up for grabs. Taiko block proposers and provers, users who’ve interacted with the testnet, developers, GitHub contributors, Loopring holders, and Ethereum ICO participants are the categories that are eligible for the drop.
That being said, it should be noted that user activities will be weighted and scored. Only users who have attained the minimum threshold will be eligible.
Claiming, however, is not live yet. Users will be able to claim their share on the mainnet of the Ethereum L2 rollup project when it goes live.
The mainnet launch is expected to take place in the foreseeable future. L2 rollups usually stick to centralized sequencers. However, Taiko relies on Ethereum validators to sequence blocks and transactions. The team raised over $22 million across two funding rounds. During the initial one in 2022, it amassed $10 million, while during the next one in 2023, it was bestowed with $12 million. The project has been making sure all screws are tightened before launching the mainnet. Earlier in January this year, it released its sixth and final testnet, Katla. That introduced a new rollup design that amalgamated features of both ZK and Optimistic rollups.
Tokenomics
As far as the tokenomics is concerned, 20% is earmarked for the core team, while another 16.88% is reserved for the foundation’s reserve. 3.5% will go to the official prover and guardian prover bonds, while 11.62% will be distributed to investors. 16% has been kept for genesis, genesis, protocol build, and trailblazer airdrops. 5% has been kept for liquidity and market making, while another 5% has been reserved for grants and RetroPGF. The remaining 22% will go to the DAO treasury.
Users have been critical about the eligibility criteria, with several remarking “as if ETH ICO participants need the money.” Daniel Wang, the CEO of Taiko Labs has time and again asserted that it is not possible to satisfy everyone from the community, nevertheless, Taiko will continue to tread on the path of fairness.
