Crypto wallet Phantom has dismissed all claims indicating it is in the process of initiating a token airdrop.
Background
- Phantom is currently working on a social discovery feature
- Users presumed that an airdrop would end up complementing this initiative
- They went on to speculate that following users or gaining followers could end up fetching them a piece of the airdrop pie
- The team, however, clarified that there are no airdrop plans for now
Why should you pay attention?
- Even though there's no airdrop per se, you can toy with the social feature
- For context — Phantom’s new social discovery feature allows you to create a profile and add other users as friends
- You can also choose between three profile privacy levels — public, private, and invisible
- For now, usernames are only supported on Phantom's mobile app, and not on its Chrome extension
- The team, however, teased that the extension support will be put to sea soon
- Stay away from Phantom-related spam airdrop posts and phishing links though
Who said what?
- Via a post on X, the team clarified,
“We've seen some speculation about an airdrop tied to this feature, so to clarify: we do not have any plans to launch a token”
- They went on to add,
“But we're incredibly excited about social discovery on Phantom and are actively working on ways to make it something everyone loves”
Zooming out
- Phantom is expected to integrate layer-1 [L1] blockchain Sui in the foreseeable future, making it its fourth L1 home
- Its already-supported blockchains include Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana
