DePIN, or Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network(s), has managed to cement a place for itself in the top-narratives list of 2024. It serves as a testament to how crypto has legitimate real-world use cases.
Right from basics like file storage, mobile-internet protocols, and ridesharing platforms to GPU rendering and AI data training, DePIN checks a host of use case boxes.
L1 blockchain peaq is one such project that has been hitting the nail on the head. In retrospect, several projects have been flocking into its ecosystem.
Now, in what is the latest development, Hyperway — a DePIN project focussed on community-owned ground relays that ensure swift data exchange between delivery drones and ground control centers — has joined hands with peaq.
According to a recent blog post, the relays being built by Hyperway will support several channels, including 5G and satellite communications. Networked together, they will effectively work as “connectivity highways” for small and large autonomous drones.
In fact, air taxis, maritime, drones, smart city systems, and other relevant projects will also have access to the network.
Now, as a part of the latest integration,
“Hyperway will build the software needed to connect 5G and satellite ground relays with peaq. It will also build the smart contracts rewarding the owners of such stations with tokens, based on how much bandwidth the drones have used up.”
Peaq-compatible digital wallets will also be integrated into the network. Making use of peaq IDs and other of its modular DePIN functions, Hyperway will launch its token natively on peaq and enable the community to buy peaq-powered ground relays.
Commenting on the latest development, Paul Yam, the CEO at Hyperway said,
“Autonomous drone deliveries are a perfect DePIN use case, leveraging the power of the community to build effective connectivity highways for UAVs. We are thrilled to see so much interest from governments and enterprises and look forward to bringing the network online on peaq.”
It is interesting to note that Hyperway has already joined hands with four governments in Asia. It has been working to enable autonomous local and international cargo shipments in regions like Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Japan.
Solana-based Hivemapper is another DePIN project that has been consistently making it to the headlines.
It recently undertook yet another expansion initiative by tying up with DMM Crypto, a Web3-inclined subsidiary of Japanese conglomerate DMM Group. Parallelly, it also partnered with Coins.ph, a crypto exchange in the Philippines.
As reported by blomcmates, both entities will operate as local distributors and help supply dashcams “to fleets in the surrounding geography.” In retrospect, this is expected to foster network growth for Hivemapper.
