Zentry: The Open Gaming Universe Connecting Web2 & Web3

July 11, 2024

In conclusion

Greetings to all my fellow apes and gamers!

If you’ve been following blocmates for a long time, you may remember we extensively covered a little gaming gem called GuildFi.

Well, it’s been over two years since we introduced them to you, and you may be wondering, Where the hell have they been?

As we highlighted a few weeks back, GuildFi is making a revanchist comeback, as some may say.

They hibernated during the bear market, carefully building and crafting their new and improved product, and now, it’s ready to be revealed to the world.

In case you missed it, here’s the little taste test we gave you about a month back.

Now that you have the sampler, I hope you’re ready for the whole damn meal because it’s going to be worth your time.

So what’s new?

GuildFi has fully rebranded to Zentry.

No, this is not your run-of-the-mill rebrand where the project changes the name and the ticker to get a fresh chart and pump their coin.

This is a complete overhaul of the project, combining some of the good elements of the past with an entire suite of completely new products and features designed to put Zentry not only at the heart of Web3 gaming but also as the connector of the Web2 and Web3 gaming worlds.

I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with some of the gigabrains behind Zentry and have been thoroughly impressed with their meticulous preparation and execution.

Now, all that’s left to do is stop rambling and finally get to the meat of this article—time to take a journey through the Zentry universe, anon. I hope you’re strapped in.

Why Zentry?

Gaming is a massive industry. Despite its maturity, there are still many gaps in this market that need filling.

A few core problems with traditional gaming have been discussed numerous times regarding the selling point of crypto gaming.

Ownership is a major concern. What’s the point in putting countless hours into a game when you really don’t own the assets yourself?

The game developer can seize your account and your assets at any moment for whatever reason, and just like that, hundreds of hours of time have just gone down the drain.

This is a symptom of centralization.

Another symptom of centralization is value extraction. Even though the gamers themselves play a major role in the games’ success, they see almost no upside to it outside of the entertainment they get.

On the surface, this seems acceptable. You’re paying for your entertainment.

But often, many big-name games dwindle the path of value extraction with constant microtransactions, new features, DLCs, and low-effort new renditions of the game that simply extract value from the gamers without any scope for the gamers to get anything out of it.

Now, you may be thinking, this is a bit idealistic. Even though the reasons are technically valid, they haven’t hindered the gaming industry so far. Gamers willingly play these games, and don’t look like stopping any time soon. Fair enough.

So, let’s zoom in a bit deeper and look at something a little more technical.

Due to how the traditional gaming world operates, composability is not a possibility.

Publishers will not be willing to partner up with rival publishers; it is technically challenging. The fandoms of different games may often not agree, and in general, it’s just something that is difficult to execute.

In the blockchain world, however, things are different. Interoperability can now be achieved with relative ease, which means interlinking different gaming worlds can also be done with relative ease.

Imagine having one massive unified MMORPG world where you have one avatar and can play different games, collect tokens and badges from different worlds, and level up in completely different areas.

The Oasis has come to life.

Now, let’s zoom out even further—bigger-picture stuff.

These three reasons are not enough to invest millions in building a full-fledged gaming experience.

So, let’s look at some numbers and trends around gaming to get a better idea of where the industry is heading. Then, the answer to “Why Zentry?” becomes clearer.

Let's start with some numbers. Over 3.3 billion people are gamers worldwide, which is over 40% of the global population. Of this, 55% are male, 45% female and a significant chunk of gamers are over 44 (28%).

Most importantly, it is estimated that 77% of gamers participated in non-gaming activities when playing games.

Think about that. Whether socializing with your friends or watching live events, games have become the proverbial “third place” for people to socialize now. And why not?

You have school, home, and now games. The benefit is that now you can socialize with anyone from anywhere in the world.

This trend is only going to keep increasing.

Since gaming has evolved more into a lifestyle than a simple entertainment activity, it has surpassed the movie and music industry, which means one thing: the advertisers are ready to pay the big bucks.

With people spending so much time on games, it only makes sense that consumer brands get involved through advertisements, in-game events, or in-game items to promote their products to a huge audience.

You already see brands like Nike, BMW, and IKEA doing this with games like Roblox and Fortnite.

So, with all of this combined, I think you get an idea of “Why Zentry.”

But how exactly are they bringing everything together?

What is Zentry?

Put simply, Zentry is the metagame layer of gaming.

This means that Zentry has combined multiple gaming elements under one roof to create the most comprehensive and realistic MMORPG. A singular universe that unites all 3.3 billion gamers.

Multiple games, loyalty systems, gamer identities, badges, items, rewards, cross-world activities, and much more are all blended together in one universe: the Zentry Universe. The metagame layer.

Picture it like this.

Imagine one large universe with multiple worlds within it. Zentry is that grand universe connecting the individual worlds, which could be anything, effectively blurring the lines between virtual and reality.

Within this Zentry Universe are “Zentinals,” the residents of Zentry, and that’s you, the players. The residents can traverse through this vast area, exploring different worlds and participating in different games, collecting different rewards, and socializing with people from all over the globe.

But this vision can extend far beyond the classic conception of “games.” This immersive universe can also include interaction with some DeFi protocols and social media platforms.

But how is all of this achieved? What does it look like behind the scenes?

Fear not, my fellow future Zentrian. Let's go over the metagame layer stack together.

The Zentry Metagame Layer Stack

Ultimately, Zentry is providing the infrastructure of this open universe. Then, it is up to the residents to shape the different worlds as they please.

To make this vision a reality, there are four elements to the Metagame stack:

  • Consumer Apps
  • Infrastructure
  • IP rich world
  • Treasury

Consumer Apps

Regarding consumer apps, Zentry recognizes that everyone is not the same. People will be looking for different experiences within the Zentry universe, which is why each consumer app is tailored to target specific audiences.

Whether you’re an ape (like myself), an NFT enjoyooor, or simply someone looking to explore worlds. There’s something for everyone.

At the moment, only four consumer apps have been revealed to us.

Radiant

Radiant is an open-world, cross-platform metagame.

In Radiant, players can quest, trade, fight, and craft. The idea behind Radiant is to engage both web2 and web3 audiences, so playing this game does not require any crypto-native expertise.

It will feature native content, integrated partner ecosystems, and even elements of real life.

Nexus

The next app is Nexus

Nexus is a game that will be a little more up the alley of us apes.

The idea behind Nexus is to be the social gateway into the Zentry Universe. It iterates upon the existing social-fi model and adapts it to a gaming universe. All your social interactions are under an immersive gaming experience.

It will initially be built atop the likes of X, since that’s where a lot of the gaming and crypto activity is, and it will eventually integrate with other social platforms.

Beyond this, It’s also a gamified voting and staking platform, and ZENT (the native token of Zentry) will be at the heart of it.

Initially, ZENT stakers will be eligible for rewards through different tokens and NFTs. However, as the game grows, the idea is to incorporate further rewards for stakers in the form of RWAs as well as LSD yields from different proof-of-stake chains, starting with Ethereum.

However, the staking element will be introduced a little later on in the life cycle of the game.

Zigma

Details around Zigma are scarce at the moment.

What we do know is that it’s a game that will involve a combination of anime, IP, and NFTs.

Keep a close eye on Zigma’s socials for more information.

Azul

Azul is a cross-world AI companion.

The idea is to leverage AI to elevate and enhance your gaming experience on Zentry. The idea is to not only help it become more fun but also more productive.  .

Unfortunately, I’m going to have to cut it short here. I know you guys are excited to see the other elements, and trust me, I’m dying to reveal them to you, but the team still wants to keep certain elements top-secret.

From what I’ve seen, all I can say is that their stuff is next level. So just keep a close eye on their socials because all will be revealed in due time.

Now, we only have one thing left to do. The part you degens I’m sure are most looking forward to. The tokenomics.

Tokenomics

The ZENT token has a total supply of 10,000,000,000.

The distribution and release schedule is as follows:

The ZENT token plays many roles in the Zentry universe.

For starters, holders of ZENT will be able to take part in decentralized governance. Governance here is much more impactful than it would be in your average DeFi project simply because of how interactive and vast the game will be.

Secondly, ZENT will be the main commodity in the universe. Whether you want to trade assets and items or you want to unlock new content and experiences, ZENT will be at the heart of it.

Another feature is staking. Holders of ZENT can infuse (stake) their tokens into the vault and get stZENT. There are two ways to do this. You can either do the regular single side staking, or you can do the ZENT/ETH LP.

Having stZENT allows users to accumulate something called fragments. The fragments you receive will be proportional to your infusion, and accumulating these fragments opens up users to a world of different rewards ranging from ZENT, other projects tokens sales, NFTs, whitelist entries, and much more.

There is a catch: if you unfuse (unstake) your stZENT, your fragments will be cut in half. So, say you put in 1000 ZENT and accumulated 100 fragments. If you unfuse 500 ZENT, you will get the 500 ZENT in full in 14 days, but your fragments will be cut to 50.

But here’s the kicker: Users can currently restake their stZENT on Sophon. This will earn Sophon points for the Sophon airdrop and additional fragments.

Just as a side note, before moving to another talking point. The initial GF token launch, before the migration to ZENT, happened in 2021. This means no surprise unlocks or any other shenanigans. The team has also committed to staking and not selling any tokens. So we’re in the clear.

All in all, it’s super bullish.

But here’s the cherry on top. The stacked Zentry treasury.

They have a $150M treasury made up of ETH and stables that's continuously earning yield, as well as some venture investments.

The benefit for ZENT token holders is that those who are long-term aligned with the protocol by having high usage, as well as, long term staking, will be rewarded from the revenue generated by the treasury.

Pretty neat, right?

All I can say is that there are exciting times ahead.

Concluding thoughts

This concludes our deep dive into the Zentry universe. I know I couldn’t give you the full rundown, but patience, anon, everything will be revealed in time.

As the world becomes increasingly digital and social interactions begin to become digital, it only makes sense to have large open worlds where people can not only socialize but participate in other activities and let their imaginations run wild.

Doing this in a web3 context where everyone retains ownership of their assets while integrating some of the superior elements of web2, such as more sophisticated gaming experiences, creates the perfect match for a fun, open-world gaming experience.

The Zentry team is very knowledgeable and knows exactly what they’re doing. We at blocmates love the team and its vision. Now, we get to see it become a reality.

To the Zentry Universe we go, anon. I’ll see you there.
